JUDGES

Categories

Rules & Regulations

  • Kick – Each team must have at least 50% of the routine consist of kick technique.​

  • Pom – Each team must use (manipulate) poms at least 80% of the time.​

  • Jazz – Each team must show proper jazz dance technique.​

  • Jazz Funk – A style which incorporates two forms of technique. It showcases linear and fast rhythmic changes in the choreography.​

  • Hip Hop – A style of music and street moves that are appropriate to that style yet in good taste. Points will be deducted for inappropriate moves and music with bad language (judges discretion)​

  • Production – This category usually has a theme or tells a story. Props and back-drops may be used to enhance performance but are not mandatory. Please tape the bottom of all props that may damage the gym floor. Each school is responsible for any damage to the floor that may occur during their performance.​

  • Contemporary/Modern – A style that demonstrates a fusion of movements derived for jazz, modern, contact improvisation, or theatrical techniques.​

  • Open – A team must use a combination of at least three different styles of dance technique. Each style must be performed for a min of 30 consecutive seconds and must be distinct from each other.​

  • Lyrical/ Ballet – A fusion of dance technique with a ballet foundation.

  • All entry fees are per routine entered, not per individual(except solos)

  • All changes to original submitted entries must be in writing: no verbal requests will be honored. Changes to original entries must be received 30 days prior to the event or they will not be implemented or refunded. Any changes to any part of the registration will result in a $150 fee.

  • Flash photography is not allowed. Video taping of other teams is not allowed.​

  • Entrances and Exits are not judged.​

  • Time Limit for Production Entry is 5 minutes.​

  • Time limit for solos is 2 minutes.​

  • Time Limit for Duets, and Trios is a minimum of 1 minute 30 seconds, 2 minutes 30 seconds maximum.​

  • Time limit for ensembles and team routines is 3 minutes.​

  • Time begins on first note of music. Point deductions will be made for exceeding time limits at the judges’ discretion.

  • Deductions of 3 points will be taken for dances exceeding the maximum time. Exceeding maximum time by 1 minute or more will receive a 6 point deduction.​

  • All performance music must be PG-13 and it must be emailed a month prior to competition.

  •  Voice Critiques will be given at the end of the night.

  • Due to covid-19 guidelines, all performers must wear a mask on and off stage. 

  • Performers will not be penalized if directors decide to have them wear "one shoe".
