MEET THE REGIONAL JUDGES
Carlos de Barros
Carlos de Barros received his (BFA in Dance), with honors, from the University of Florida/New World School of the Arts (NWSA) collaborative dance performance program. After college, he has maintained his degree by being a student as well as a teacher continuously taking classes and workshops that come to South FL and/or around the country such as The FL Dance Festival, The Pulse, The Jazz Dance World Congress in Chicago, and at Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Since 2012, he has also completed fitness certifications in Zumba and Piyo, two children's yoga certification courses and his 200 hour yoga teacher training with The Yoga Society in Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative styles. He is currently working online to complete his ISSA personal training certification and his 300 hour yoga teacher certification with Yoga Renew.
Professionally, he danced with several local South FL companies, has been a guest dancer for independent choreographers, and he has been selected for several different projects in the commercial industry. Carlos was a faculty mainstay and taught all levels of dance technique and Repertory and Choreography classes at the popular Bak Middle School of the Arts for 15 years. In addition to his tenure at Bak, he has continued to guest teach and choreograph for private and public schools around South Florida and in other parts of the country. Most recently, he has done three teaching and choreography residencies (one at Cypress Lakes HS (2019) and two at The Fine Arts Center in Greenville, SC (2019 & 2022). Carlos continues to teach all styles of dance locally and around the country as well as adjudicating for many different competitions.
From 2013-2017, Carlos accepted new positions to start and direct the full-time dance and yoga programs at a couple of different private schools working with grades K-12. In August of 2014, he was chosen to participate in a National dance ad campaign for SoDanca that was released in 2015 in Dance Spirit, Pointe, and Dance magazines. In 2016, he worked as an associate choreographer for Isis Masoud on a short dance film called “Ayita’s Dream” which was accepted into the Miami Film Festival. In 2017, he was asked to be a photographer’s assistant and model on a dance photo shoot for Hashtag Dance Swag’s new website. In 2018, he modeled for Alex Lanau’s yoga clothing line. In January 2019, he was chosen as the male dancer/actor in a car commercial for Healey dealership in New York. In April 2019, he was selected to be an extra in the pilot episode of Beauty and The Baker on Netflix. Carlos loves to bring a blend of his passion and experience for the art of dance as well as his many years of educational background working with different age groups to his judging style. His knowledge and experiences help him to give fair and concise feedback in a positive way for dancers to grow and develop their skills and artistry!

Born and raised in Miami, Susie earned her B.F.A in Dance from New World School of the Arts/University of Florida. While attending school, she was chosen to be part of the Miami Heat Dancers where she danced and choreographed for 6 years (2002-2008). Today, the Heat organization holds a special place in Susie’s heart as she continues to guest choreograph for the Miami Heat Dancers and eagerly holds a Championship ring.
Susie became the assistant choreographer for the Marlin Mermaids in 2004. She always loved the stage, live performances, and she has performed with various artists such as Chino y Nacho, Daddy Yankee, Chayanne, Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Will Smith, Chris Brown and more. Additionally, she toured with Shakira as part of the “Oral Fixation” Tour.
Apart from the American Entertainment Industry, Susie is very involved in the Latin Market being the assistant choreographer for various award shows including Latin Grammys, Premio Lo Nuestro & Alma Awards. You may also recognize her from the FOX hit T.V. show “So You Think You Can Dance” where she was Top 20 in Season 4, as well as, the movie “Rock of Ages” that released in the summer of 2012 where she had the opportunity to work with Mia Michaels and Director Adam Shankman. Lastly, a performing appearance in “Dancing with the Stars” as choreographed by Mia Michaels.
Susie is the proud Owner and Creative Director of Show Stopper Dance Studio, where she directs the program to its entirety as well as the studio's dance company.
Royal Caribbean Director of Casting & Artistic Integrity
JP Christensen is originally from Nashville, TN where he received his early training in Nashville Ballet’s pre-professional program and then continued his education as a dance major at Point Park University. JP appeared on Broadway in CATS, Fosse, and Thoroughly Modern Millie (Original Co.). Other credits include Opryland USA, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Radio City Music Hall. JP is a sought-after master teacher and choreographer with students currently performing in major Dance Companies, on Broadway, and in major Motion Pictures. He has served as the resident choreographer for both Chicago and CATs for Royal Caribbean Productions, tasked with maintaining the original staging and choreography.
In 2015 JP joined the Casting Department at Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines casting dancers, divers, acrobats, and specialty artists. He quickly moved to a Lead position overseeing the casting of all Broadway Musicals within the fleet, as well as the numerous Signature Aqua and Production shows in RCCL’s portfolio. In 2019, he created the role of Manager of Entertainment Artistic Integrity overseeing the integrity of all Royal Caribbean’s produced entertainment.
JP is currently Director of Casting & Artistic Integrity and is a driving force in acquiring and maintaining the outstanding talent of over 1,500 working performers and the artistic integrity of Royal Caribbean Productions entire roster of Theater, Ice, and Aqua shows throughout the fleet.
Studio Director|Gymnast|Choreographer| Professional Dancer
Meet Shea Danielle McMayo. She is an Entrepreneur, Dancer, Choreographer/Coach, Speech- Language- Pathologist Assistant and an Early Interventionist. She was born in Tulsa, OK, lived in Miami, FL for 9 years and currently resides in Trinidad & Tobago. Her love for dance began in middle school and high school. She was an FIU Golden Dazzler and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Mass Communications. She was also an instructor for the National Dance Alliance (NDA) for 3 years. After university, she was a Miami Heat Dancer from 2008-2014 where she was the Team Captain from 2011-2014, while working as preschool teacher. During that time, her interest in Speech-Language Pathology sparked and went back to school where she received her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Speech- Language Pathology from the University of Florida. After working in speech therapy for a year in Miami, she moved to Trinidad & Tobago where she opened her own academy with her sister, Spirit Academy of Trinidad & Tobago, where she teaches dance and acro and is the Program Director & Head Coach/ Choreographer for the competitive program. When she is not dancing or choreographing, she is an early interventionist working with preschool- aged children with Autism and helping them by using communication techniques and multi-sensory learning experiences to help them maneuver the world around them. She hopes to blend her love of working with special needs and dance to her own academy one day.
